High above the clamour of Hindley Street sits a gorgeous little enclave of old-school glamour: the rooftop burlesque and jazz club Nineteen Ten. The venue opened in 2018 and references the classy speakeasies of burlesque’s golden era, complete with skyline views and a swimming pool. If you’re looking for a stylish and sexy date night, look no further. Mr Minsky’s Rooftop Cabaret is a well-edited variety show that makes excellent use of the gorgeous surrounds.
It’s always challenging to review a variety show. I’ve been told that musical acts, magic, and comedy all make appearances at Mr. Minsky’s cabaret, but on this night the selection was pure, unabashed burlesque. We were treated to teases by the playful Fafi D’Alour, sensual Miss Curvella and dramatic Velvet La’Vim The standout performer was Luna Eclipse, who combined saucy moves with oodles of character and strong musicality. A good mix of classic and neo-burlesque set to high-energy jazz and big band kept the night engaging and entertaining.
You may also get a chance to win a free drink or two – not to brag, but this reviewer took the crown in a twerking competition and came away with a delicious cocktail of choice!
This show makes for a fun night out in a stunning little venue. Head up the glass elevator, take a seat by the pool, and let Mr. Minsky entertain you over a few drinks – you won’t regret it.
