Matilda Handsley-Davis just completed Honours in microbial genetics (*UPDATED FOR 2020* now nearing the end of her PhD!), and loves history, art, and biology. She’s been described as a Renaissance woman, which she doesn’t exactly object to. Her other main claim to fame is her painfully adorable pet toy poodle, who has her own Instagram fan base.
Favourite art movements: Expressionism, Impressionism, Art Nouveau, and (of course) the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood
Favourite films: Casablanca, Amadeus, and The Wizard of Oz
Favourite musicians: Regina Spektor, Kate Miller-Heidke, Ben Folds Five
Favourite podcast: I don’t listen to many, but I’ve recently been enjoying the Myths and Legends podcast! (*UPDATED FOR 2020* I am a complete podcast fiend these days!! My favourites include You’re Wrong About, Witch Please, The SSR Podcast and Science Vs! I also enjoy a bunch of ABC Radio podcasts like Classic Flow, Ladies We Need To Talk, Science Friction, and The Minefield. On second thoughts, don’t get me started on podcasts)
Favourite novels: Birds Without Wings by Louis de Bernières, The Penelopiad and the MaddAddam trilogy by Margaret Atwood, and The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco
Favourite food: I have a huge sweet tooth, so it probably has to be some form of chocolate! I made some Nutella and salted caramel filled double chocolate cookies recently that were pretty amazing.
